Postdoctoral
positions available at Notre Dame Radiation Laboratory, Two postdoctoral positions are immediately available
at the Notre Dame Radiation Lab, both concerned with radiation chemistry
in high
temperature and supercritical water (SCW). The first position is primarily
concerned with measuring reaction rates and yields of free radicals in
SCW for the
purpose of assembling a model of chemistry for proposed nuclear reactor
cooling loops. Pulse radiolysis will be used as a tool to generate
solvated
electrons, H atoms, and OH radicals. Detection techniques will include
optical transient absorption and time-resolved EPR, in addition to
product
analysis. The second position is mainly concerned with fundamental
understanding of solvent effects on free radical reaction rates in the
supercritical water (SCW). Experiments have already uncovered numerous
strange effects that need to be explained. This position may involve
molecular dynamics modeling and theory in addition to experiment. To
some Interested candidates should e-mail Dr. David Bartels (bartels.5@nd.edu) at the Radiation Laboratory to get more details. David M. Bartels
